The world's first 5G smartphone with 450 MHz support for Zone 1/21 enables mission-critical communication even when public mobile networks are unavailable. Built on the proven IS540.1 platform, it combines a 6-inch FHD display, a high-performance Qualcomm® chipset, and a replaceable 4,400 mAh battery for maximum reliability during continuous shift operation. The 16-pin ISM interface provides secure connectivity for approved accessories such as PTT headsets or remote speaker microphones.
Resilient, wide-area, and secure connectivity have become non-negotiables in an ever digitised industry. Although mid-band 5G and millimeter-wave take precedence, the 450 MHz band provides a strategic cornerstone for critical infrastructure, smart utilities, and industrial IoT [Ref. RAD Article - 450 MHz Band for Resilient Connectivity Solutions | RAD IoT].
iSafe MOBILE have identified this and integrated 450MHz into their ATEX Zone 1/21 rugged Smartphone, the IS541.1. The 450MHz frequency provides long-range, reliable communication especially where there is limited cellular coverage. Several countries across Europe are actively licensing 450 MHz for energy and public safety, for example: 450connect in Germany is deploying a national LTE450 network for critical infrastructure.
An article by RAD in 2025 states “450 MHz band provides unmatched range and deep indoor/underground penetration. This makes it an ideal solution for rural and remote sites, utility substations and pipelines, and critical infrastructure, all of whom work in challenging environments. The reason that it’s becoming adopted so quickly is because fewer base stations are needed, meaning it’s cost-effective and offers wide-area coverage.” This explains why the use case for 450MHz is so broad. The i.Safe MOBILE’s IS541.1 enables users within ATEX Zone 1/21 areas to operate a device on the 450MHz band.
NOTE: LTE450.co.uk, an independent technical reference site, explains that there is no operational LTE450 utility network in the UK currently. Ofcom manages the 410-470 MHz band under an existing licensing framework that has not yet produced a national utility spectrum award comparable to Germany’s 450connect. UK electricity DSOs, water utilities, and industry bodies have made the case for dedicated 450 MHz spectrum, but the regulatory and commercial path to a UK LTE450 network remains unresolved as of 2025 [Ref. Peter Green – Article LTE450 in the UK: Spectrum, Regulation and Outlook | LTE450 ].
